This year I decided to make specific use of my Soundcloud account. I uploaded a stream of ideas for songs and shared them.

I wanted to learn how to do hip hop and trap-flavoured sounds so I made lots of beats and stuff.
The results were I got better at production. The habit of creating and uploading kept me sane in a difficult part of the year. It informed me regarding how I should go about releasing music in the future.
It made uploading stuff less scary. Even though these were works in progress, it didn’t feel like I was devolving back into Caryl’s Law because none of the tracks were part of some grand release plan. Having said that, some of these tracks will become full songs.
I don’t mind telling you they will go together to form Innermost, my electronically driven offering with some risky rapping (risky because I’m inexperienced and will probably get a few friendly eye rolls from the more experienced crowd).
This is my list of priority for work in the new year:
1) Finish and release Digital Delight
2) Work on and release the commemorative All The Way To Yesterday EP
3) Finish and release Innermost
I’ve discussed with lovely Dave regarding childcare arrangements while I throw myself into my work for a few hours. I’m looking forward to balancing the slow and deliberate living of motherhood with the sporadic intensity of music recording. I hope I can achieve a good mixture of the two while prioritising effectively.
Any musical parents out there with tips and stories on this topic? Thanks in advance…
