Song ID Explained
Alphanumeric code incorporating the song number under an artist name and the date it was written or date of release.
The first two letters represent the artist name the song was released or shared under, the last two letters represent the writer name (I’ve only gone by two names so this will be either CS or CA). The number follows the order in which songs were released, and then in order of when they were written if that information exists.
Unreleased Songs
Although there are a finite number of songs for most of these artist identities, things like unreleased and unrecorded songs still need a song ID and will need to be given an order number. Any unreleased songs will tag on to the end of the released list. Songs that I dig out afterwards, released or otherwise, can be tagged onto the end also.
Examples
CA-001-2011-CS
First song in order of release from Caryl Archer completed after the artist name change and completed in 2011.
In this case this would be Micropause because it was the first original single from Caryl Archer released on Bandcamp in 2012. I began writing Micropause in 2005 when I was still Caryl Sumner, but finalised it in 2011 when I recorded it for The Acoustic Cake Project as CarylCake. I have chosen to note the date as 2011 to reflect the finish date, but the writer name as Caryl Sumner because that’s who I was when I started!
There won’t be many examples of songs finished across this divide, but structuring the ID codes this way means I can express that if necessary.
LU-001-2020-CA
PORTMANTEAU by Lucid Letters released in 2020. PORTMANTEAU was written and first shared in 2019, but since it has an official release I am noting the date code as 2020.
CA-0XX-2006-CS
This would be the code for the song 12:26 as it was written while my given name was still Caryl Sumner, even though it wasn’t released until 2012 on the mini-album, VOX ARTIS.
