The Clay Asks The Potter

Caryl Sumner
From Self-Titled

The clay asks the Potter:
“Why did you have to make me so small?
How can I be any use at all?
Why did you have to make me so small?”

The clay asks the Potter:
“Why did you leave me on this shelf to dry?
You know that I can’t help but wonder why.
Why did you leave me on this shelf to dry?”

“If only you could see the things I have
In store for you, my child.
If only you’d just trust in me…”

The clay asks the Potter:
“Why did you put me in this kiln to burn?
Is there something in here you want me to learn?
Why did you put me in this kiln to burn?”

The clay asks the Potter:
“Why are you painting colours on me?
What you you writing there? I can’t see.
Why are you painting colours on me?”

[Chorus]

The clay asks the Saviour:
“Why are you pouring wine into me?
Who are you praying to? I can’t see.
Is this the plan intended for me?”

“This is my body, and my blood
That’s shed for you, and all mankind.
When I next drink, I’ll drink anew…”
